What do/did you like about being in your 40s?

I'm a few years yet from 40, but am wondering what I could look forward to.

I had the apartment for myself after my daughter graduated and moved out when I was in my early 40’s. I didn’t have to drive straight home from work, could cook what I wanted and all of that sort of thing.
