I Wish My Mind Had A Delete Button
Moving on would be so much easier if things didn't lurk at the back of your mind. The past relationship, the unpleasant sight of an accident where someone perished, a hurtful remark. How we sometimes wish they would just disappear.
Then I look at those who have had memories totally deleted. They cannot recall names, faces or moments of horror. They no longer know the people they once loved or their next door neighbour. Deletion is complete and irrecoverable. Dementia is cruel.
Memories good and bad make us who we are: lessons learned, love received, hate dealt with, forgiveness offered or refused. Deletion lessens us and those around us. Perhaps learning to manage our memories is better than losing them.
