I didn’t place a tag on this because this is to no one specific but just a general statement. It is very dangerous to assume a person’s intent especially in type and also especially with others whom English may not be their native tongue. I also speak Icelandic taught to me from birth same as I was English and Icelandic has very limited words as compared to the very diverse words of English. Because of this one Icelandic word may have several different meanings and its true meaning can only be understood in context of the sentence it is spoken. Combine that with translation to a different language where the context may seem to imply something not implied in the speaker’s native tongue and you have a very real possibility of the misunderstanding of the intent of the speaker. Also many people I speak with don’t use commas and periods as you would in grammatically correct English and you would seem to have a literal time bomb of misunderstanding. I’m very careful to not assume bad intent and ask one or even a few follow up questions on anything that I might think I understand because I’d hate to make an enemy out of a would be friend or even an ally just because their word choice or grammar led me to a wrong assumption.
