I think it's the opposite, in my opinion, unconditional is confused with conditional love. Conditional love sounds more like a contract as the meaning of conditional is to have requirements that need to be met. Unconditional wouldn't be a contract, conditional would be though as there are certain requirements you feel like another person has a duty to fulfill.
I think if someone ever said they wanted unconditional love but was abusive, I'd tell them that what they really wanted to be was conditional because they'd be forcing me to make a contract so that's not really unconditional.
