I Have An Unpopular Opinion

"Unconditional love" is a nice-sounding phrase that if taken literally, describes an obscene and dysfunctional dynamic. Don't stay with someone who just doesn't respect you. ❤️

Unconditional love doesn't mean you have to put up with shit. A mom may believe her murderous son deserves jail, but it doesn't mean you don't love them. The same goes with drug addicted children and parents. You still love them, but you realize sometimes they need to figure it out themselves.

@ChiyoSKL In effect, that just means having the douchebag punished, but feeling bad about it, which is completely useless.

@BlueVeins Not really. At some point as a parent, lover, child you realize that they have to take accountability for their actions. Doesn't mean you don't love them, doesn't mean you feel bad. I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of it.

@ChiyoSKL You don't feel bad when something bad happens to someone you love? If you're supporting a court's decision to put your kid in a cage forever, saying you love them really is just words. All the strong feelings in the world ain't gonna do jack shit for them at that point.

@BlueVeins When something bad happens to them yes. When they do something bad no i don't feel bad. That's a decision. Unconditional love doesn't mean intense crazy infatuation type feelings no matter what. Unconditional means when something happens to them such as cancer, a car accident, a mental impairment, sexual orientation. That type of thing. It does not mean they can hit you. Abuse you. Or live without consequence. That would be toxic love.

@ChiyoSKL So in other words, it's on the condition that they don't do evil shit, right?
ChiyoSKL · 31-35, F
@BlueVeins No. You can still love somebody if they do bad shit. Loving doesn't mean you have to like what they do. You don't have to accept it either. If love meant accepting everything the other person wanted, did, etc compromise wouldn't be needed. Again, you're thinking of toxic or obsessive love.

@ChiyoSKL unconditional love is toxic. You're kinda just bein' inconsistent and overall you seem confused about the case you're trying to make.
