A serious question…

Say you have neighbors with whom you’re friendly and have more than a nodding acquaintance; whom you trust.

If one day you saw them being taken away by the authorities, would you go out to ask what was going on ?

Would you check and see if the neighbors needed you to call anyone on their behalf ?

Or would you close your blinds and assume the neighbors were being treated fairly and according to the law ?

And that getting involved would only cause you problems ?

🥺

Let's just say thank God I'm not American because I'd probably be in jail for assaulting ICE officers.
@CountScrofula It’s ugly. And ironic because it’s coming back to bite certain folks who voted for it, with a vengeance.

Family members in the south told me that with some of Trump’s EOs, programs providing sanctuary for immigrants from places like Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, are being "scrutinized".

The premise of sanctuary is that your life is in danger if you return to your homeland. Sooo, the U.S. government is reviewing who has gone home to visit family at any point during their time living in the U.S., which allows the State Department to claim that they’re here fraudulently. Folks are receiving letters, ICE is turning up on doorsteps.

YouTube has touched upon it, but I imagine that’s nothing like seeing it happening. 🙁

@bijouxbroussard What really, really bothers me is this is a distraction. As far as I know, ICE is not actually deporting more people than they did previously. They are now making a cruel show of it by targeting sanctuary areas because - as always - the cruelty is the point.
@CountScrofula Exactly.
@CountScrofula I knew that people in many different communities look down on the undocumented and make the point that they’re "here legally". But Trump’s interference with programs that have granted legal status is a game changer, and some people who counted on having legal residency, can’t anymore.
