Can something truly be new and improved? If it's mew it shouldn't need improvement. And if it's old crap you just made better it's not really new.

I understand. I always understood it to mean a new version of something that already existed, with improvements—so it works more efficiently.

But possibly I’ve been overthinking it. 😄

New, improved... according to who? Most of the time it's been ruined, either leave things as they are or make the improved version and call it something else.
