It’s too hard if their kids are beasts and they think their kid is cute. It’s not worth it.

Honestly it would be a wedge similar to if you dislike their spouse.
You can be friends but I would try to avoid them when I know the kid will be around.
Some kids unfortunately are truly terrible because they don't have good parents or they have unresolved trauma.
