As a teenager and young adult, love was all about sex. As an older (yes! Much older) woman, it is about patience, sacrifice, and pleasing your partner outside the bedroom. Sex is the ribbon that decorates the package.
mathsman · 70-79, M
@dulcedona love that "ribbon" analogy

Formerly: Love is just a word I've heard when things are being said. Stories my poor head has told me.... In between what might have been and what has come to pass. (Courtesy of James Taylor).

Presently: Friendship on fire. In a room full of oxygen. (Author unknown. I threw in the oxygen part, just as a kicker).

@RandomUniverse I love the way your presently has been expressed, whoever it is by as edited by you.

Love to me was doing my job ,providing ,protecting ,love making ,time for the one
Now I see it as an emoting I have for someone ,but they may not feel the same about me ,forgiving even though I am the one wronged .
Giving even if I never get to receive
Sacrifice that may never be appreciated
Being there even if the only time I am needed is when no one else can do the job ,and once the job is done ,I seem to be forgotten again
this is a deep subject to me ,,I hate I don't have the accurate words
so I use the one others use ,unconditional
The Bibles explanation is my standard ,though I know I don't match that ,
I can keep on trying

@rckt148 Wise words.

[c=#7700B2]Disney movies ruined my expectations of love.. the bar was set incredibly high[/c]
SW-User
@PlumBerries And romantic novels for me along with Disney movies. These things should be banned! Lol.
PlumBerries · 31-35, F
[c=#7700B2]haha agreed [/c]
SW-User
[c=#BF0080]Same here.

Love for me had not changed much since that first time so long ago. It is the loss and the death of love that was much more of a challenge and painful, learning experience.
SW-User
@OKWTF2 Sorry to hear of your loss.
OKWTF2 · 51-55, M
@SW-User Thank you, but it is just a part of life. Love can also die with out it being as dramatic as I think my post made it seem.
5thApprentice · 31-35, M
I thought of it as a wild fire before; intense and consuming...But these days I think it's more of a constant flame that endures wind, rain and darkness.
SW-User
@5thApprentice I love the way you expressed that!
5thApprentice · 31-35, M
@SW-User Thank you. 🙂

I thought it was some kind of fairy tale thing and that it wasn't real, but then I actually experienced it for myself and found out that while it certainly was no fairy tale and wasn't all sunshine and rainbows it was very real. I think over my various romantic experiences I've come to know what love is fairly well.
SW-User
@UndeadPrivateer How would you define love now?
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@SW-User A unique, deep personal connection with the individual, a desire to see them thrive and simply be who they naturally are. When it's reciprocated it's a really wonderful thing, with a healthy relationship(romantic or otherwise, really, this applies to friends too) being one where both parties are helping each other to meet their highest potential.
SW-User
@UndeadPrivateer I love that.
Kissing and holding hands and lots of talking. Lol
SW-User
@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Haha so cute!

i knew that it was staying together because you loved each other and that's where children came from at the age of 6
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User i was raised with politics and realism i was sometimes better at things then my teachers. i was very adult but still a child :p
SW-User
@popmol Yep, I get that. It's what your nature is.
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User indeed, i'm both mature for my age and way too immature :p
MenzernaSF4000 · 36-40, M
I was quite young when I realised that you should find one and be with that person. I have respect for love like nothing else. I don't even like wife jokes one bit.

I still believe in each and every one of above mentioned things. 😊
SW-User
I thought love had to be intense and passionate to be real, I realize now that loves often comes in the form of gentle kindness
SW-User
@SW-User Indeed.
dulcedona · 70-79, F
Yes! A thousand times yes!@SW-User
mathsman · 70-79, M
It took me forever to realise what love was all about
mathsman · 70-79, M
@SW-User it's all about "the other"
SW-User
@mathsman But surely, it should also be about you with the other?
mathsman · 70-79, M
@SW-User yes, but it starts with the other, whereas I was only starting with me for ages
I came to realize what true love was when I had my child.
SW-User
@Underconstruction That is a whole different kind of love.
@SW-User It is the real one.
I don't think I really thought too much about it, I was naive and expected every relationship to lead to marriage 🙄

Now, it's about respect, companionship, having that one person that knows you and still is with you in spite of all your flaws, for better or for worse.
SW-User
@InOtterWords LOL. :D Cute.

And yeah. :)

I wasnt sure what it was and im still not sure what it is
