Yup, dead at 65 from throat cancer. He's was my 2nd top 5 all-time best guitarist. I followed VH from 1980 on their Women and Children First album.

Added alcohol and drugs, that pretty much did it.

That's very possible.
My Jack Daniel's drinking days was inspired by Van Halen and Motley Crue.
Not that it's a good thing.

Eddie drank heavily back in the 80s and 90s.
