I Know Things Happen For A Reason

Suddenly, instead of having a full time job, I'll start coming to work on-call only for some signatures needed until the company totally shuts down...it's bankrupt. No severance pay.

I knew this would happen and coincidentally I ran into an online job last year. It's quite turning out well because I already got the grip and received incentives. I was even given more hours to work. But of course I cannot go on it in a full blast because of this office job. So I only work like 2- 4 hours on weekdays and 6-8 hours on weekends.

I was really thinking of my budget when I read the memo. I must be more frugal. Little luxuries must take a back seat.
Could my savings and part-time job sustain me until I can cope with this life-changing sudden arrangement?

Then I was given a check for 11k.
WOW... I didn't expect it! I thought I can never have my hair done this weekend and also skip the Spa. Yeah I'm shallow but these are the things I do to unwind after a hard work.

Things happen when we least expect it!
And it's almost my Friday, Yay!

Take the 11K and put it in your savings account, or better yet in a 6-month CD earning interest. Otherwise chances are you'll end up burning through it in a few months and be right back where you started, except with huge regret to go with the bills.

@DudeistPriest you're right! What a sage advice.
@1Dogma Didn't mean to sound too 'ruff' around the edges, but I've seen this happen so many times before. My own mother burned through hundred$ of thousand$ in no time, lost her beautiful home, Cadillac, etc... then declare bankruptcy twice, repeatedly spend until she had to get cash payday loans with sky-high shark rates, save nothing and leave nothing to me and my sister when she passed away. Spend a couple of hundred on yourself and sock the rest away where it will grow. Ask friends for a good investment vehicle. Good luck.

@DudeistPriest thank you. that's so sad to hear about your mom. Business venture can be good but I'm not spending too much nowadays until I can get more lucrative payouts from a new job that can pay my bills and buy me more time til retirement.
@1Dogma I understand. I wish there was more to go around these days, but saving for retirement is a must. After several years of research and cost/benefit analysis, I've chosen Panama to retire to. Two generous 'pensionado' programs, discounts for seniors on everything, incredibly inexpensive, they use the dollar, mostly high standard of living, many US expatriate communities, English is widely spoken there, and the fact that I already speak Spanish well makes me wish I could go tomorrow. Many places you can retire on even less than your monthly social security.

@DudeistPriest thank you for the link. why are you already in a retirement scheme, nearing there already?
@1Dogma 😁 Yepper. Well several years out actually. But I'm a meticulous planner and set things in motion years out in terms of saving and investing for what I want. Yeah I take pride in being cheap, but the bright side I get everything I really want, high quality and inexpensively. Panama has been on my planning radar for at least four years now. Can't wait. having popcorn yet to go with those videos?
