A glimmer of practicality was established last night
So I have to post something, who cares whether I said I wouldn't till I have completed 10 books and 20 audiobooks.
Reading is the thing I love to talk about, almost even more than reading itself!!
But I've been gently pushed into action thanks to one of my friends here, to clean up this messy place, and thanks largely to the calculator on my phone doing number crunching I think I may be ready to adopt some austerity measures.
Austerity, bleh, not nice eh?
Well austerity means sanity when you already have enough of what you are normally locked into getting more and more of.
My latest more craze was to get 9 audible credits quarterly, to collect all of 3 amazing Fantasy series, BUT
Here is how my rickety mind solved this.
There is as it is not just a heaping plate full already, but hundreds of full plates.
It is a sickness to only be excited about things you've yet to get, and give the cold shoulder to what you did get.
Now here is a brief list of all the Fantasy series I have in my mix, with only a few left out because I am not 100% mad to have everything I have in the mix.
J.R.R. Tolkien -- the Delphi complete works, primarily for The Hobbit, I already have the famed trilogy, but reading The Hobbit is needed, Andy Serkis did an audiobook of it during the Covid pandemic, and I guess that impressed a lot of LotR fans.
C.S. Lewis -- Chronicles of Narnia -- the audio and the ebook!! Nostalgia center!!
Ursula K le Guin -- The Earthsea Cycle -- this is from the 60s here, as we're more or less doing this chronologically.
2 Glen Cook series -- The Dread Empire and The Chronicles of the Black Company -- this here was what I foolishly spent too much money I wanted to pay for this stuff!!
Terry Pratchett's Discworld -- it's fun and I always have giggled each time I spend about 10 minutes reading it. Books usually don't make me laugh, and it's not necessary, otherwise I'd be finished this series by now, which has close to 50 volumes I think, but all fairly short.
Stephen King -- The Dark Tower -- can't forget this guy!! Maybe some other SK books that have some tie ins.
Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time -- I am listening to this one primarily as I have the first 5, my monthly credits will be to continue it, and 2 other series to be mentioned soon.
Robin Hobb -- The Realm of the Elderlings -- this is my #1 pick so far.
George R.R. Martin -- A Song of Ice and Fire -- even though it's unfinished, it remains one of the best in grimdark fantasy.
Steven Erikson -- Malazan Book of the Fallen -- this is #2 to be collected with my monthly credits on audible.
Jim Butcher -- The Dresden Files -- slowly collecting the audiobooks of this too, but eye reading, maybe not so much.
J.K Rowling -- Harry Potter -- I've never even tried reading them before, the movies were fun for me around the early 2000's, my dad thought they were Satanic, and I got a thrill by watching "evil" kids entertainment.
R. Scott Bakker – The Second Apocalypse -- I heard of this from a booktuber listing off the most brutal grimdark series, and this one came in 2nd place!! Not politically correct Fantasy for adults unlike what is directly above this entry.
Joe Abercrombie – First Law World – I have had the first 3 for a long time, the Steven Pacey narration is one of the best vocal performances of all time!! So this is the 3rd series i'll be slowly collecting in audio, just 6 to go, unless another is released by the time i'm at the point where I just need, NEED more!!
Brandon Sanderson – The Stormlight Archive -- I seriously want to find out what the big deal was with this guy, the latest in this series bombed I take it, people like Mike from Mike's book reviews said he's done reading Sanderson, in a mystical kind of way that's saying, now it's my turn to try it out!!
John Gwynne – The Faithful and the Fallen -- I might be wanting to spend more and more time with this short 4 volumes series where Matt, the biggest Malazan fan I've ever seen praised it to the skies.
Fonda Lee – The Green Bone Saga -- another Quartet that I should breeze through, this is like an Asian Godfather flavored Urban Fantasy.
ALL of that and so much more, are for me treats for doing consistent cleaning up, and being a good steward of my finances. Which will then constitute a fully orbed lifestyle, as it was maybe on the Planet Tookenvilla, in the Morpy Galaxy.
