Do dreams have meaning?

Oh yes, some are pretty eloquent.

Dream do not have "meanings".

Dreams sometimes refer to real people or places we know, or once knew, but all neurological studies suggest they are only fleeting by-products of the brain carrying out its own "housekeeping".

Why they can be surreal I have no idea, beyond suggesting while we are asleep and dreaming our imaginations are not fettered by other bits of our mind saying, "Don't be silly".

Some do... some don't. Some are just an amalgam of things you said, did, or saw, heard mixed with random nonsense.
