According to Dr. Freud, dreams are wish fulfillments. The idea is that when wishes can't or won't be fulfilled in our waking lives, they are carried out in dreams. The wishes are masked by a censor, however, so you won't be morally upset when you wake up.
Nobody can tell you what that dream might possible mean. You will have to find out yourself.
@helenS Isn't Freud questioned by now? Err, I should edit this by saying his ideas were guided by a certain morality that is quite different than now.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Yes. His main motivation was to point out that "free will" is an illusion. Today, neuroscience is much more fashionable; the denial of free will by neuroscientists sounds much more convincing to contemporary ears.
@helenS Ugh. I hated the work of Freud, William James, Luke Watson, James Lange. The original DMS had folks like me (gay) listed as having a mental illness. Luckily, I had intelligent parents who supported me and my boyfriends.
@helenS Sounds like a current societal argument somewhere. No reference to the argument to mask up, or to not. I was hitting upon different elements though, what determines a moral action and can they be known without previous influence? I doubt Frued was a criticial thinker entirely, but one at a time society needed, thus critical.

@Grateful4you Some even claim that homosexuality is a curable "disease", which, of course, means that violence against gay people is not only justified, but necessary.
@helenS It doesn't say that actually, but it does say they don't understand human sexuality in any way.
helenS · 36-40, F
@thewindupbirdchronicles In my opinion Dr. Freud constructed a modern myth, which appeared to be reasonable at the time.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Any attempt to "cure" homosexuality is violent.
@helenS Considering the violence towards homosexuality, yes. I meant differently, but point taken. My gay nephew would likely hold a different perspective than me.
@helenS I do admire the newer, "Positive Psychology" based on happiness. It includes easy exercises to improve mental stasis.

@helenS So then would the socialist's attempts to convince/indoctrinate our school children (by the teachers) into believing they need to prevent themselves from reaching puberty or to become gay or trans also a form of violence?
helenS · 36-40, F
@TexChik Oh come on Chick! Really that's ridiculous. A "socialist" teacher who indoctrinates schoolboys to become gay? 😏
You need some coffee.
TexChik · F
@helenS You need to wake up, that is happening in the US every day. Even in Texas. The teacher left after the parents tried to beat the crap out of her.
helenS · 36-40, F
@TexChik Be honest please: did that really happen?? 😐
TexChik · F
@helenS yes , unfortunately. Its occuring in all the blue states.

@helenS dr Freud's theories are far out of date.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Dshhh True. Things like the "dream censor" as a part of the subconscious are no longer taken seriously today, by most experts in the field.
In my own opinion, dreams are just neuronal noise.

@helenS science agrees. sleep is so necessary, the entire brain alters to let the "garbage men" come in and clean out
seeking meiang in your dreams is like seeking meaning in your trash can
helenS · 36-40, F
@Dshhh The interesting thing is that we are tempted to charge up ours dream with meaning in our waking lives.
Dshhh · M
@helenS people are desperate to understand themselves, and will grasp any bit that might do it, from meyers brigss to astrology. anyone saying they have the answer gets attention
helenS · 36-40, F
@Dshhh One of the problems of modern science, for the man in the street, is loss of meaning.
