A refining of the menu

Here's my challenge for May -- to complete volume 1 of Joel Beeke and Paul Smalley's mighty 4 volume Reformed Systematic Theology, and so for all other readings will only be the following:

Malazan Book of the Fallen -- this long fantasy goes well with the music being listened to, it's a Grimdark, which leans in on the dark side.

And a few daily nibbles on those thinkers I find myself agreeing with whenever I read them for short periods of time:

The French Moralists
Max Stirner
Friedrich Nietzsche
E.M. Cioran
and my man of the hour Albert effin Camus!!

For the albums, I must have listened to 100 albums, all of which need to have been listened to at least 4 times, 4th listen it is mandatory for me to have the lyrics before me so I know what the hell they're saying.

I did that with one the other day with an album by Destroyer666, it was such a hoot, like hearing the rantings of a neo-nazi atheist, doing spirited anthems and marches for their cause which is just hail Satan all the way.

But there's some artists in the BM scene that it's not just an act, or it sounds like it at least, which makes it then feel more authentic, the aim of it all is to evoke as much evil as possible. Now there'd be the stage presentation that would go along with their sound, but for me, I am strictly a listener, seeing it, most of the time makes me think I'm watching WWF, and that is not my thing, although I have some fond memories of it as a kid, and recently it was nice to see Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride.

There is so much to discover in BM and Extreme Metal as a whole, I like speed and thrash, and some doom and death kinds, death metal has vocals that are even harder to follow along to, so that would be good while reading books.

I'm listening to Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales btw, it's a very polished sound with some good riffs, that's another thing, I love a good riff, and a good beat, in so many genres you get that for a moment and then it's gone, in BM i'm finding that those good parts last longer, it's almost like the catchy minimalism of Reich, Glass and Nyman.

Charting the progress of Vol. 1 then I have to progress at least 3% per day

May 5 -- 5% -- get to 6%
May 6 -- get to 10%
May 7 -- get to 13%
May 8 --
May 9 --
May 10 --
May 11 --

100 albums some of which are short stuff

001 -- Hellhammer – Satanic Rites
002 -- Hellhammer -- Apocalyptic Raids -- when it goes slow and weird I get the giggles, but the fast paced parts are rockin' good stuff!!
003 -- Celtic Frost – Morbid Tales
004 -- Sodom –In the Sign of Evil
005 -- Bathory -- self titled debut
005 -- Vulcano - Bloody Vengeance
006 -- NME – Unholy Death
