Not inevitable at this point. It can probably be prevented if the US rebuilds our trade relationship with China and maintains military deterrence. We're currently moving in the opposite direction but we could reverse course.

I feel for the innocent lives that will be lost and I'm moving to an area nobody wants so they'll leave us alone.

Trump cosplaying as Putin (in Venezuela rather than Ukraine) has certainly given Xi a green light to do the same with Taiwan; the US is no longer any sort of moral foil to dictatorial land grabs

With Trump's actions the US has lost any shred of democratic moral high ground it may have had left, and now anything the US says about anything anywhere in the world at this point is meaningless (and I highly doubt the US will do anything to protect Taiwan)

It's notable how all three of these dictators tend to pick on the little guy instead of like-sized competitors ... just more tiresome schoolyard bullies
