what should you do when you 'forget your train of thought'

lose your train of thought.

this happens to me at times and i find it really tormenting, as i have ocd of my thoughts, and feel i have to hold on to my thoughts and retain everything, so if i forget what i was thinking about, it really causes anxiety, especially if it was something important that i wanted to remember...and the more i try to remember what i've forgot, the more i scour my brain to remember, the more the thought won't come back..and it's torture.

my thoughts are always racing and i constantly overthink a lot....my mother told me don't try to hold on to your thoughts and retain everything, because no one can do that....she said, if i forget something, don't try to remember or salvage what was lost, as it'l cause more torture, instead, let it go because it will pop up again in your memory at another time, ' nothing is lost ' my mum said to.

any help?
