One of my husband's sisters was renting from his other sister and started gossiping about her so she was asked to leave.

There is harmless gossip and there is the not so harmless gossip. I don't know but she had a good thing going and she lost it. Now she pays full rent and it's not cheap. I don't know why people do that to each other.
