Are rubber bands today really RUBBER BANDS? IF NOT, what are they? If, they're not made out of RUBBER, should we really be calling them RUBBER BANDS?

@StanleyStark I used to work for a rubber company and we mainly used natural rubber. We did use some synthetic compounds, mainly nitrile, possibly SBR if I remember correctly.

Today's "rubber" is synthetic, I think they are derived from petroleum and that is why they do not last at all, they break quickly as the months go by.
