That's scary: "Tik Tok Brain"

Apparently being on tik tok for prolonged periods of time can cause brain damage in short term memory loss. I also found earlier studies of people giving themselves mental illness and stuff with it. Crazy.

A 2021 study on TikTok’s specific neurological effects examined how Douyin, China’s TikTok equivalent, affects Chinese college students’ brains.3 It found that watching personalized, algorithm-selected videos activates reward centers in the brain much more than watching random videos that haven’t been chosen specifically for the viewer. Brain scans of students who used the app regularly revealed addiction-like responses, and some research subjects lacked enough self-control to stop watching.

“If you are watching TikTok for long periods of time, it may lead to problems with attention, concentration, and short-term memory.” Griffin said.

In addition to the specific impacts of viewing short-form, personalized videos on a consistent basis, TikTok also presents the same challenges for young people as all other social media platforms, according to Griffin.
This includes a reduction in real-life interactions that can lead to stunted emotional and social development, as well as the possibility that even with parental controls, children will be exposed to potentially upsetting, harmful, or inaccurate information.

This is not new. It's just a more intense version of the addiction you have to your phone.

@MartinTheFirst Oh it's nothing new but interesting. It would also explain why a certain "type" of person has always seemed off to me. It's not that they're off because something is wrong with them, it's that they have tiktok brain and are brain damaged. It's not an insult, it just clears things up for me on some weird behaviors I've noticed from a certain group of people who watch TikTok too much. They have a lot of weird behaviors and speech that I never understood but I didn't correlate that to TikTok, however the people I'm often wondering about do watch it quite a lot. So would explain things.

@MartinTheFirst I've seen smaller children who watch TikTok constantly and they are usually very offish I guess, with how they behave. Now I know why.
