He was being ridiculous.
The rule is that the person making a claim should be the one to prove it. That standard applies in science, any other academia, law, journalism and pretty much everything else. It's not your job to prove them wrong. On the Guardian website forums (which did have a lot of smart people on it) that was universally accepted as a standard by people across the political spectrum and anyone telling others to prove them wrong would be mocked for having the audacity to use such a lame argument.
I could say that aliens walk the Earth and that you need to prove me wrong because otherwise, I win. Clearly, this is bonkers.
Sometimes in a debate, you actually can prove someone wrong because they are clueless and you have a source ready to hand. Really though, it shouldn't be expected.

@Burnley123 That's how it should be but there's a lot of people who believe the burden of proof isn't on the one who made the claim. Something else I noticed is that, like you said about aliens walking the earth, the person who made the claim uses it to assume that I know nothing or I am "too stupid" to debate with.
I wished he would have proved his claims then I wouldn't be so confused and have something to go on. He tried telling me I don't have any idea on human sexuality in regards to sexual oppression leading to pedophilia.
He also made the claim that states with lower ages of consent tend to be less sexually repressed because they were more "liberalized" whatever that meant.. I wasn't disrespectful but just said that I don't see any proof of what he's saying as I'd have to have the stats on that but somehow I don't think there are none.

@SatanBurger He's a nutter talking shite. It's impossible to be reasonable with these people.

SW-User
"If we just lowered the age of consent, there would be no pedophilia!"
"We only have more Covid cases because of the TESTING! We need to slow the testing down!"

@SW-User Lol about the same logic.
