Why the hell are commercials so loud? 😐

To grab your attention. Years ago, there was an actual push to normalize the output of all TV, but it never got any real traction in the industry. I can tell you from experience that it is tough to get everyone on the same page, plus the shows don't necessarily seem to mix their audio overly loud.

@Miklee02 I'm primarily an audio guy. Everything is a playlist now, precious few VTRs of any kind. But the people who post NCIS are not the same ones who do Progressive ads and they won't sound the same. It's for that reason that there is "mastering" in audio: when you assemble an album, you match all the volume levels and sound levels. That's done in TV, too, but not in regard to playlists, who aren't always put together by technical personnel.
