My 9 ½ hour journey begins tonight

The Human Condition trilogy, each part can be seen in 2 parts, making it a 6 part experience, like 6 films. It's to me interesting that it's very close to the running time of Dekalog, which i'm pining to see again. Also Shoah is between 9 and 10 hours. And for trilogies i look fondly towards The Apu trilogy.

Long movies in multiple parts, others i have only on DVD like Heimat, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Out 1, Satantango.

The Human Condition though is my focus for at least 2 nights, maybe 3, maybe even 4 nights, depends on my energy levels, and i should only ideally see things first in the dark.

It can be seen on youtube, but i cannot watch films that way, i love collecting, and with a set up that would have been the norm over a decade ago, is the only way i can see things on our nice big good tv. It's elevated, and i position this ugly uncomfortable green recliner right in front of it every night, and for 30 or so minutes at a time i bask in the spectacular wonders of cinema punctuated by smoke breaks. This time of year the nights are short, oh for in a few months when the dark lasts longer. I haven't been able to solve the light problem, we here solve problems at a turtles pace. It's kinda nice that way, cuz when something goes right for a change, it's like pure ecstasy.

I've done Human Condition twice so obviously like it a lot.

Dekalog was ok, wouldn't screen it again.

Shoah was stunning but exhausting.

Pather Panchali was Ray's masterpiece - the other 2 not so special imo

Heimat 1 and 2 were monumental works - liked them a lot

B Alexanderplatz I have on VHS recorded from tv (AMC or BRAVO I think - believe it or not) and haven't watched it in some 30 yrs but if I can find it in another format I might try it again.

Out 1 I've never heard of but will try if I can find it.

Satantango was very good but wouldn't view again.

I think Godfather 1 & 2 compare favorably with these films and may be the best American movies ever made.

@tindrummer Berlin Alexanderplatz has the royal Criterion treatment. So glad to hear of your film tastes! I feel Kobayashi's epic will be the film of the year for me.
