Question for parents #1a - IYO how long is too long

...either without a bowel movement, or without a substantial (or copious) bowel movement?
In other words, after how many days of them not really doing a good stinker would you give your kids a suppository or enema?

Growing up years ago, mom or grandma intervened if a single day was missed. I got my share of enemas, but suppositories didn't appear until my younger sisters were being seen by a new pediatrician. Our old pediatrician and his nurse were strong advocates for enemas.

When nurse Marge moved to the adult doctor's office, she continued suggesting enemas and even educated me on how to give myself one as I became a teenager. Grandma had passed on, but mom still kept the enema/douche bag hanging in the shower and over the bath tub.

Over the years, as I've read even more on the subject, and as my daughter's habitual-constipation problems have gone on and on, I've become more hardline in my merde-monitoring, reaching the point where I almost never let her go for over 24 hours without doing a dooey - and if that happens I'm likely to break out the big guns (refer to enema formulas page)
