This what I think of data centers - we have real issues about the rollout of data centers, but the reasons behind going full steam on getting it done are many.
AI is ground breaking, positive technology and we need the data centers to be at the forefront of this race to be a worldwide leader.
Why? simple:
• Economic leadership
AI is becoming the backbone of medicine, manufacturing, logistics, energy, and research. If we lead, we export the technology. If we fall behind, we import it - and that means fewer jobs, less innovation, and less control over the tools our economy depends on.
• National security and resilience
AI already plays a role in cyber defense, intelligence analysis, and threat detection. Leading doesn’t mean preparing for war - it means not being dependent on another country’s systems for critical infrastructure and security.
• Setting global rules and standards
The country that leads in AI ends up shaping the norms everyone else follows: privacy protections, safety requirements, ethical limits, and how AI is used in medicine, policing, and public services. If we’re not leading, we’re reacting to someone else’s rules.
• Quality of life and innovation
AI accelerates drug discovery, disaster response, transportation safety, and scientific breakthroughs. Leadership means we get those benefits first - and we get to decide how they’re used.
• Talent and jobs
Where the cutting‑edge work happens is where the world’s best engineers and researchers go. That’s how Silicon Valley became what it is. If leadership shifts elsewhere, so do the jobs and investment.
So the “winner” doesn’t get a trophy.
The winner becomes the place where the most important technology of the next century is invented, governed, and exported instead of the place that buys it from someone else.
That’s the real issue.
