Can't get rid of the hated Microsoft Bing!!! Help!!!

I have uninstalled Bing. I have re-downloaded Google Chrome, twice. I have been into settings and I have set Google Chrome as my default browser. Three times. I have gone to the Google Chrome site and I have asked for help via chat, and followed those directions.

It doesn't seem to matter what I do, every time I search on my Google Chrome browser, Bing comes up.

I hate Bing passionately. Years ago, they hijacked my laptop and, same as now, I could NOT get rid of them. I actually had to take my laptop to the Geek Squad to get the effers OFF.

Now, because of that, if I even SEE the name Bing I become furiously angry.

They are a DISEASE!!!

When you go into your Google browser, click on the 3 vertical dots on the upper right corner of the web page.

1. Open the menu "Settings" on the bottom of that page.
2. In the newly opened "Settings" page, open the menu "Search Engine" on the left.
3. Chose the "Google" search engine and make sure it is ticked.
4. Set "Google" as default search engine.
5. On the menu just underneath the Search Engine, check the menu "Default Browser" and check if Google is listed as default browser

If it fails, what you can do is to include Google search as default search engine you can open the menu "On Startup" and tick "Open specific page or set of pages". Click "Add a new page" and then insert the URL of Google (https://www.google.com/). Click "Add".

From now on, next time you open your browser, the Google search should appear as your default browser.

@Stephie I was able to do most of that. Google does appear as my default in my laptop settings...but one thing I was able to do thanks to you was to delete Bing from the list of search engines.

@4meAndyou And...update...Bing is still performing my searches. I searched the weather this morning and Bada Bing brought it.

@4meAndyou Darn! I will have to check for it and you may have to dig deep into the settings of your computer to try to fix it.

@4meAndyou I checked various sites on the internet and there is one possibility you can check. When Bing opens, click the three dots next to Bing and select Remove from list.

Click the On startup tab. You'll see this tab in the left panel of your Chrome settings.

Remove Bing from your startup pages. The easiest way to do this is to select Open the New Tab Page, which ensures that all new tabs open to the default Chrome start page and not Bing.

If Chrome is set to "Open a specific page or set of pages," check the list of websites for any instances of Bing. To remove a page, click the three dots next to it, then select Remove.

Also, check your Windows settings to see if Bings opens when you start Windows.

1. Go to "Start", the blue window like icon in the taskbar.
2. Check "Settings"
3. Open the "Apps" tab
4. Go to "Installed Apps"
5. Next to the "Bing" app, select the 3 dots
6. Check if you can uninstall "Microsoft Bing" - uninstall it if the option is available

Next, go back to the "Apps" tab
Check "Startup"
Check if Microsoft Edge is in the list
You may have to remove the Microsoft Edge browser from both the "Apps" tab and the "Startup" tab.

That would mean that you have Microsoft Edge no longer installed in your programs. This may remove the Bing browser as well.

Good luck.

@4meAndyou You may also want to clear your browsing data, like cookies and cached files, which may get rid of any trace of Bing. Go to the settings menu, select “Privacy and security,” and hit “Clear browsing data" in your Chrome browser. However, doing that will also clear all your saved passwords and browsing history. Check that you have a copy of your saved passwords.

@4meAndyou Finally,
1. Open Chrome and click the three-dot menu ⋮. You'll find this menu at the upper-right corner of Chrome.
2. Click Extensions on the menu. This displays a list of all browser extensions installed in Chrome.
3. Remove any Bing-related browser extensions. If you see any extensions like Microsoft Rewards, Give with Bing, Bing Pages, or Microsoft Bing FrontPage, you can click Remove to delete it from Chrome. These extensions rely on Bing, removing them will bring you closer to removing Bing from Chrome.
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie Oh, I already did that with the extensions. The only things in there are Chrome related and Adobe related.
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie On your recommendation, clearing browsing data and cache and cookies...it's taking forever. I don't remember it ever taking so long.
4meAndyou · F
@4meAndyou It didn't work. I just did a search for my Gmail account, and Bing powered the search.

@4meAndyou @4meAndyou Boy, you must have been very active on that internet. SW takes the lion share I guess 🤨
Stephie · 22-25, F
@4meAndyou Did you get rid of Microsoft Edge?
Stephie · 22-25, F
@4meAndyou What kind of browser extensions are installed in Chrome? Check those you are not familiar with and remove them
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie unfortunately I tried a system restore, and nnow am locked out of google on my laptop. Forced to use my cellphone.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@4meAndyou System restores can be tricky. I am so sorry you have to go through so much trouble with your computer.
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie Thanks.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@4meAndyou It's night time here across the pond. I will check for further information tomorrow and let you know.
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie Thank you SO much...but part of the problem has corrected. I got onto the internet on my laptop again by using Microsoft Edge, then downloaded Chrome again for the THIRD time, and now everything is very slow and wonky, but at least I am... sort of...back in business!
4meAndyou · F
@Stephie STILL haven't got rid of Bing...but I am being taught that it's put up with their horrifying presence, or be banished from my laptop entirely.
