Anybody else having problems with Google phones/Smartwatches etc. ?

A pal was telling me today how he spent nearly £1600/$1960/e1730 On a new Google phone and smartwatch and yet when trying to set it up kept getting messages from Google that his account had been hacked and they were terminating his service.

Took him an age to convince somebody somewhere in some department that he'd only bought it that day and beyond trying to link his home phone and e-mail he hadn't used it.

He said the people he was directed to within the helpline were absolutely useless and insistent that the 'error' was his alone.
Ultimately my friend said "I'm going to give you one hour to sort this out because this is affecting my business and i'm holding you responsible for any losses incurred since this phonecall began" He then hung up.

He then went about his day using a different phone but kept an eye on his Google phone and watch and within the hour both were up and running as they should have been in the first place.

Just wondered if anybody else had experienced similar.
I've never owned a Google phone. Sounds like that was a smart life choice on my part.

@LordShadowfire I ask the question because we're beginning to get 'hemmed in' to these few huge corporations whether it be Google; Facebook and all it's subsidiaries; Apple; Amazon; etc. all promising that the 'security measures' are for your safety yet increasingly i find that these systems often cause more trouble than they're worth and maybe they're not as 'secure' as they're trying to have us believe
