Meat can be 3D printed ? Who would've known ?

Russian scientists and experts from fast food chain KFC plan to develop 3D-printed artificial chicken nuggets. The project is underway, with the final product expected to be ready for testing this fall.

The effort is part of KFC’s concept of creating a “restaurant of the future,” which leverages state-of-the-art technology like 3D bioprinting to overcome solutions in the food industry, including more eco-friendly alternatives to traditional meat.

“At KFC, we are closely monitoring all of the latest trends and innovations and doing our best to keep up with the times by introducing advanced technologies to our restaurant networks,” said Raisa Polyakova, general manager of KFC Russia & CIS.

“Crafted meat products are the next step in the development of our ‘restaurant of the future’ concept. Our experiment in testing 3D bioprinting technology to create chicken products can also help address several looming global problems. We are glad to contribute to its development and are working to make it available to thousands of people in Russia and, if possible, around the world.”

They can 3D print organs for humans. I don't know why KFC shouldn't profit. But...time consuming. I understand it takes almost an hour, depending on the complexity of the item being printed.

@4meAndyou Considering the shortage of human organs needed for surgery I presume that this is going to become incredibly useful.

@Wraithorn It will be amazing. They can already grow chicken muscle inside a petri dish, and this is just the next step.

Did you know the US Army Corps of engineers can 3-D print a pontoon bridge in 24 hours? Strong enough for tanks to cross rivers?

@4meAndyou Yes,I read that a while back. So soon we'll be able to just 3D print ourselves bridge, a house, a chicken drumstick or a new kidney.
Oooh...and now I'm wondering how long it will be until people could print themselves a perfectly designed 3D Human. 😳

@Wraithorn Uh Oh...I have a friend whom I like to tease about that...I told him he can buy a female robot that is completely lifelike for only $100,000.00, and he always responds that he certainly hopes so, because the plastic blow up sheep he has now isn't any fun any more...😂.

But I believe you would only be able to print a DEAD 3D human.

@4meAndyou Maybe...maybe not...
I'll bet there are at least one or two scientists somewhere trying to figure out how to make live bioligical organisms by printing them.
Designer babies are already possible but the ethics and morals are holding it back. They're not printed of course but I'm sure it will eventually be possible.
