I Love Swimming

I read yesterday starting at the 2020 Olympics. they will add mixed relays. also the 800m free for men and 1500 free for women. I think its about time for the new free but now sure how I feel about mixed relays. swimming is definitely a sport that needs to stay separate because men swim faster than women.

Mixed relays are common in just about every other level of competitive swimming. They added them to the worlds a few years back.

@ProdigalSummer: I guess mixed relays are good cause theyre working together but mixed individual in track or swimming would give men an unfair advantage

I don't understand how you see an unfair advantage. Each relay team is made up of two men and two women racing against other teams composed of two men and two women. The only advantage would be how fast the four swimmers are and the strategy used to determine order. Order placement is what wins relays.

No, but my kids are on swim team and we lightly follow competitive swimming. I've been a swim mom for nearly a decade.

@ProdigalSummer: ok but I worry what mixed relays will lead too. I was a competitive swimmer and am now a coach. we don't have mixed relays in our club
