Has anyone here ever lived in poverty? If so, what do/did you feel when the topic of poverty comes up?

I don't know about poverty, but I have lived in some very lean years. I feel really bad when when our finances do come up. I tell very few people about it. Of the friends I have told only one has given us any help. All the others we have helped over the years just say that's too bad and avoid us.
