I’m slightly nervous today

My wife started a new job today, she’s teaching English to adults who don’t speak it (people who have moved here but don’t know the language.)
She was working as a supply teacher in a couple of schools and had picked up a long term position, but some of the kids picked on her because of her weight/accent/accused her of ‘showing off’ because she wore designer labelled clothes (the school was in a poor area) etc and she had to quit.
I hope she has a nicer time. 😬🥺🙏🏻

Generally speaking adult students are far more motivated to learn and appreciative of help. I think she will be pleasantly surprised..😷

I kinda thought that. I suppose they’re more mature and don’t find certain things amusing. Fingers crossed. Thankyou. @whowasthatmaskedman

... why wear designer in a poor community
Strongtea · 26-30, M
Ok yes, I get you. It’s just what she wears though, she shouldn’t get picked on for it. @class

Perhaps she should wear cheaper clothes
@Strongtea must be rich then and snobby

She is from a well off family yes. And yes she has been called snobby by people before.
I think she just has high standards and likes to wear the nicest clothes. @Rose90
@Strongtea great

She’s going to be doing an important job with people who are likely to be appreciative. I taught teenagers for nearly 30yrs and they can be cruel, but also delightful. Fortunately I was not in a tough area. It sounds like your wife made a good decision to leave that group and move. I’m sure she will be fine.

Thanks!@FreddieUK
Did she work in a secondary school?
Strongtea · 26-30, M
She did, it was pretty horrid. @HijabaDabbaDoo
@Strongtea yeah, it can get pretty brutal. I think secondary schools are the most difficult because kids are prone to target you to impress their friends. This might be the change she needs

Yeah, I think you’re right, she was effectively a long term supply teacher so the kids knew she’d eventually leave, she stuck it out for a few months. Hopefully she has a good time at this new job, it’s nice that she’s helping people as well. 😊@HijabaDabbaDoo
