Healing Isn’t a Straight Line
Scripture: Proverbs 24:16 (KJV)
“For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”
Healing isn't a straight line. Sometimes it's two steps forward and one step back. I've been through that before and messed that up real good, by trying to get ahead of God and rush things. That just never works.
God has His own timing, and for good reason. It's the right time when everything is lined up just right for us for miracles to happen. Plus growth! Some days, you feel stronger, lighter, and more at peace. Other days, old wounds resurface, familiar fears return, and you find yourself fighting battles you thought you had already overcome.
But a setback does not erase your progress, and a hard day does not mean you're back at the beginning. How many times I've had to regroup, so to speak. Get my head together and start again. Consult with the Lord.
Proverbs 24:16 reminds us that falling is not the end of the story. The righteous person may stumble, but they rise again. Their strength isn't found in never falling; it's found in continuing to get back up.
Sometimes, God heals us in layers. He works through the tears we thought we had cried for the last time, the forgiveness we are still learning to extend, and the pain we are finally brave enough to face. Healing may not happen as quickly as we'd like, but that doesn't mean God isn't working. It takes time and it's nothing we can rush.
Don't mistake a difficult day for a defeated life. You can be making progress and still have moments when you feel broken. You can trust God and still have questions. You can be healing and still need time to rest.
Give yourself grace for the days when moving forward feels difficult. You don't have to have it all figured out TODAY. You don't have to pretend you're okay when you're not. And you don't have to condemn yourself for struggling with something you're still learning to overcome.
God is not asking you to heal perfectly. He's inviting you to keep trusting Him through the process.
So, when you take two steps forward and one step back, remember that you're still moving. Keep praying. Keep growing. Keep showing up for yourself. Keep allowing God to restore the places in your heart that have been hurting.
Your journey may not be a straight line, but your setbacks don't have to be your stopping point. By God's grace, you can rise again.
You are not a failure because you are still healing. You are human, you are growing, and your story is still being written. 🫂
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that my setbacks do not define me. When healing feels slow and old wounds begin to hurt again, help me remember that I am not back at the beginning.
Give me grace for the days when I feel weak, patience for the process, and faith to trust You even when I cannot see my progress.
Teach me to stop condemning myself for the places where I am still healing. Remind me that falling is not the end, and that through Your strength, I can rise again.
Continue to restore my heart, renew my mind, and give me peace along the way. Help me celebrate the small victories and trust You with the unfinished parts of my story. In Jesus' name, Amen.
🌷 Remember: Healing isn't about never hurting again....It's about learning to meet your pain with grace, your struggles with faith, and your journey with the understanding that God is still working in you.
Heal heart's Lord, and comfort all who are hurting, In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
