I think most everyone has something they deal with. "Normal" families are not perfect, yet from the outside looking in, they seem to be. I had a stable family - hardworking, good, "normal" parents and siblings, but I still struggle with a couple things from that seemingly "normal" life. So, carrying jealousy and comparing your life to others' lives that may or actually may not have been as great as they appeared to be, is futile. Try to forgive and find a way to make peace with the fact that you can't change the past, but you can vow not to perpetuate those negative behaviors into the future. Good luck.
@Catastrophe I have had both. It’s not fun as they say.
@DareToSayIT Oh no. Was the psychopath harder to deal with than the NPD parent? I read someone's post online saying they had one of each parent and the NPD was worse to deal with but I wouldn't know, as I've only had a NPD parent.
@Catastrophe they were both mashed in one. Both sides were equally crazy

My friend Mandy had a normal family growing up. Shes one of the only people I know that did.
@MyNameIsHurl What happened to the rest of them?

@Catastrophe fucked up parents. Those my people
@MyNameIsHurl Haha, yeah. I think the two weirdest families were mine and some close childhood friends who grew up with witches and warlocks (kinda fun if you ask me though). The other families, of friends, were petty and simple but just... normal.
I feel exactly the same.

I've wondered what it would be like to have had a normal family. I grew up with my mum repeatedly sectioned for mental health so my grandparents part raised me cause my mum was in hospital but I think I wouldn't be me if I was raised any other way.
@PatientlyWaiting25 That's true... I'm happy you're content with who you are now! I like myself but I'm just unhappy I had to spend so many years in a mental prison. I'm just having regrets that I wasted so much of my time. Things could always be worse, I guess.

@Catastrophe yeah they definitely could! I think everything happens for a reason. I don't know why some of us struggle so much and for others, life seems so easy. I think we should try our best to live for each day and doing whatever we can for others. It's all you can do really ❤

Life is so unfair

Sucks. Makes people without ordinary lives more interesting though

I used to wonder what I would be like had I not endured so much abuse and neglect as a child, but I gave up those thoughts a long time ago. There’s no way of knowing which parts of me would still be similar and which would be very different.

I am genuinely happy for the children growing up with support and stability.

I had a normal ordinary family life, the problem was elsewhere and I feel damaged for good. You might not know what people carry.
@CrazyMusicLover Oh I know I don't know what people carry. You are lucky that you could go home and be comforted or whatever, not undermined though. My home was a battleground of malicious ill intent from my mom, pitting me against my sibling to compete for love stuff like that. Also, external factors (like everyone else) - molested as a kid, raped as a teen, cult stuff etc
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Catastrophe I wouldn't say comforting or empathy was my parents' strength but it's not what caused me problems, at least I think.
@CrazyMusicLover Well, I'm sorry for your challenges outside of the home, the world can be cruel.
We never truly know what happens behind closed doors. A life that looks perfectly normal on the surface can hide a deeply tragic reality underneath.
