What Her Eyes Said

Could you forgive something completely and still never allow that person back into your life?

I forgave my mother when she was dying. I won't paint a picture; it was bad. There still wasn't honesty in her words, but it was there in her eyes. She just wanted to feel my hand, and I think in that moment I understood she was never in control of a single thought. Maybe you wouldn't agree, but this is what I saw. Her addictions were powerful, and she suffered greatly because of them. There is no reason for me to have hate in my heart for her, despite what she did to me.

One of the hard parts as a kid was holding on to my hate for her because occasionally there were glimpses of good times and good memories, though there weren't many. Making pizza together, or watching me beat Donkey Kong on the SNES.

I honestly didn't want to hate her, but it was the only way to remove her from my life. I was a hateful, angry kid, and I have come a long way since then. How a person can change when they finally forgive is like a miracle.

Yes and have with certain people
I am still struggling to forgive my parents because I don't understand. I was there when they passed but there was so much hurt after with my family too. I had to walk away from everyone and I've healed a lot since, but I have no idea how to forgive yet.

I'm working on it.
I tend to forgive people for things but want nothing more to do with them 8/10

That's IF I forgive them. I've found as I get older forgiveness isn't a thing that's always necessary for me and sometimes I just decide to move forward in general without the person or the forgiveness. I'm extremely good at compartmentalization.
@DancingStarGoddess I feel you, as the older I get the more tired I get the less important it is to keep this kind of hurt in my life just to try to save something that might and probably wont be worth it in the end. I treat people with kindness and hope they will give me the same grace, but if they can't do that much they aren't right for my life.
