I don’t think sex work is empowering for women

Or for anyone for that matter. I know some men are sex workers too. But I feel that prostitution, hard core pornography, stripping professionally and so on are industries people enter if one they are trafficked and abused into it or if by choice because they see no other economic alternative to sustain themselves whether due to lack of educational or vocational opportunities. I feel it demeans sexuality into a commercial transaction and cheapens and debases it.I truly feel sorry for sex workers. I’m not one to think it should be criminalized because then sex workers would be scared to go for help from the authorities. I also know the “clients” have diverse reasons for paying for sex work too. Some are just lonely and want someone to talk to, others are there for purely sexual gratification. Others wish for companionship when they have no significant others or spouses to have a connection with. I also feel like fixing the problem is also understanding why men and sometimes women seek out in the first place. And there should also be programs to reintegrate sex workers into society with educational opportunities and vocational training and therapy to help with processing the trauma of their experiences. As a society we should help the most vulnerable so they don’t feel they have to turn to sex work to survive and there should be stronger safety nets for people who fall on hard times and better access to higher education and vocational training to keep others out of poverty in the first place. And there needs to be more education to spread awareness about human trafficking and the signs of it. There also need to be harsher laws on the traffickers and victims should not be punished if they say murder their slave masters. That is just my view.

I have a few issues with this.

1. I think a lot of the issues around sxx work lays in people always wanting to criminalize it. I would have to look this up but I think it was New Zealand or another country where sxx workers could sue if a client robbed them or they can also press charges if a client assaulted them, there was a hefty jail sentence for doing so.

There are countries where the police will help you and won't throw you in jail. When it's treated as a service, you generally have less crime.

It was an article where the crime rate was way down on sxx crimes specfically because police helped bring justice to sxx workers.

I could look it up but it was a fascinating read.

Just like how there's areas around the world which have went opposite to that of the United States prison system wise and are having to close down prisons because lack of crime. What most people don't get are that their views are what's causing higher crime because the solution is often times opposite of our natural instinct.

2. Not saying you mean it like this because I don't think you do so honestly don't take it this way but I think infantilizing people and thinking they need rescuing is demeaning too.

There's a lot of sxx workers who genuinely like sxx and there's more than a few p orn stars who have chemistry degrees but went in the other direction because jobs aren't what most people think.

Most people think having a career will make them happy but sometimes it's the opposite. It's where capitalism kills your hobbies and dreams once you realize the working world doesn't care how hard you work and that the people only really get success through knowing how to manipulate to a certain extent.

This is seen countless times in capitalism where higher ups typically show traits that most don't have or are not willing.

I'm not saying that every sxx worker is like this but if someone enjoys it, I don't see how it helps looking at them like they're a rescue dog or something.
