As we navigate the complexities of life, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of wealth and material possessions. However, Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also". This verse teaches us that our hearts follow what we invest our time, energy, and resources into. When we prioritize earthly possessions, we risk losing sight of what's truly important. As Matthew 24:35 says, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away". This scripture encourages us to focus on eternal, heavenly treasures that will last, rather than fleeting earthly riches.
As we continue on our journey, we're easily faced with temptations and distractions that can lead us astray. Satan often makes sin look fun and exciting, but ultimately, it leads to ruin. The love of money, in particular, can take our minds off God and keep us separated from Him. As 1 Timothy 6:10 says, "For the love of money, is the root of all kinds of evil".
When we prioritize wealth and material possessions over our relationship with God, we're easily led astray by temptations from Satan. The lottery, for example, may seem like a harmless indulgence, but it can quickly become an addiction that steers us away from God, like anything else we prioritize over Christ. Unfortunately, the temptation of quick riches can be overwhelming, and I've seen it consume lives, including someone I know. Let's not underestimate Satan's tactics. We're not immune. Satan whispers to us, "Nonsense! That won't happen to you! You're way too strong for that!", but it can, and does. Money can take our minds off God, and threatens to keep us separated from Him. Satan's goal is to lead us away from Christ, and from doing things for Him.
Scripture reminds us that our trust should be in the Lord, not in chance or luck. I know when we're hurting, it's tempting to look for quick fixes or guidance in all the wrong places, like horoscopes or the stars, but God tells us not look to the stars or horoscopes for guidance in our lives. This is not because He wants to control us, but because He loves us and wants to protect us from unwise choices that may harm us...whether it be now, or in the long run.
Praise God, our hope is in Christ! Our riches are in heaven, waiting for us! As Mark 8:36 asks, "For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?" Let's hold fast to our faith and trust in God's goodness. There are no substitutes for Christ. Like a paper rose, riches can only imitate the real and lasting joy believers find in Christ, and never last. Only in Jesus can we find true peace that passes all understanding. We've everything we need in Him.
I pray you will be encouraged to stand firm in your faith and to trust in God's plan for your life. May we all be reminded to prioritize our relationship with God and seek His guidance in all aspects of our lives. May God bless and guide you as you reflect on your own priorities.
Love for money is a bad love. Love for anything other than God as a priority is bad love. Kingdom of God is the real treasure. Most of us read the theory but fail to practice.
your post works as a reminder to us. Sometimes, we look at others in this world and get into the race of being riches forgetting his will. May his will be done on all of us. Thank you for this beautiful reminder of whom to value most in our lives.
