I feel and live your pain.
My company too doesn't want to fully staff our QA department. We have four lines, but only 3 techs, with some shifts left with only 2 techs. We as "leads" could help out more, but management wants us managing.
We need 16 techs across 4 shifts, but we are only budgeted for 12 techs, and somehow we are supposed to catch every mistake by others and ourselves.
Let your boss know that you are only human and that you have limits, as we all do.
