In any public place, one is surrounded by people... but they are alone right? because each with come with their company and stick to themselves only. The same goes for any family or social gathering. Why do you think games and contests are held in social gathering? Just to make people participate rather than feeling alone sitting in a corner.

@in10RjFox Never thought about it like that......

@Silentpleasure reason why some characters become popular and loved as they break the ice by taking initiative either by teasing or provoking. The same thing happens in a classroom if the teacher is not active.

@in10RjFox So just human nature?

@Silentpleasure I would say its got to do with upbringing. Naturally we are extroverts and curious. Early schooling is I feel what makes more of us Introverts and Shy, as we are made timid by disciplining. Being reprimanded as a child is not a joke and has a lot of psychological impact. During childhood we observe a lot and obey which changes our natural behaviour. So the fear of failing and criticism is what I think makes us refrain from being participative and keep to ourselves.
What probably came as a saving grace is the internet, with which we chat now. Even this interaction won't be there.

@in10RjFox Excellent point actually. Funny how things leave such a lasting impression and form the social norms and acceptable behavior.
