Disgusting Fly Problem

It's amazing that even after 2 years of trying to get someone to take care of my fly problem in my apartment, still nothing has worked. I don't leave trash sitting around nor food, either. When the flies start coming in like they are now, and I'm on third floor by the way, then in another 2 days or more I will have at least 60 flies in my apartment every day and I am so sick of it. We have done everything we know to do and we still can't find where they're coming in at. So I was bombarded this morning with lots of flies and that means I'm going to have to pull the plastic from the large living room window where I thought they were coming in at and still do, because that did no good, and it's always around that window, I know they're coming in, but we still can't find where at. Absolutely amazing.

So now I have to rip all the plastic from the window and spray this horrible smelling bug spray that I just hate and it gets in my lungs just bring a little bit of it. I cannot stand the smell of it. I'll rip that off and then of course I'll spray the screens on the outside and then spray all the large window and I mean it's a big window and long, and then I'll have to leave the apartment for a few hours. I'll go get some fly strips. The Flies will still come in but as soon as they land on that fly spray they'll die in no time and hopefully I'll get some on the Fly strips which I always do but I hate looking at those things. They are sticky and messy I don't care what anybody says. I'm just so fed up with these flies. I'm looking for another place to live, but not necessarily because of them. I just need a bigger place.

Not being an expert, I can't give you anything definitive, but my dealings with flies are like this:

Yes, we do get drain flies. I pour ammonia down the drain where I see them emerging. Works a treat.

Now, the other problem, which was far, far more challenging, was that, due to a spill we didn't clean properly, the flies gathered and the larvae actually burrowed into the carpet! They were easy to see with a flashlight. People were telling us to rip up the carpet, but I didn't want to have to replace it.

It was awful, weeks went by, we vacuumed, put down poison, you name it, could not get rid of them.

We bought this professional Bissell rug shampooer. It rocks. It has this aggressive brush underneath, plenty of power. I gather that it ripped them to shreds and got them up and/or drowned them. Awesome. In any event, that was the last we saw of them. Poof.

So check your carpets. That would explain why the window plastic stuff isn't working, but again, no way to know. They were NOT easy to get rid of. And, good news, the Bissell is rentable.

Thanks for BC. I hope that's the issue, and you can get rid of them.

This one. Not cheap. But I cannot recommend it more...IF that's the problem. And they may have burrowed into other places, this really sounds like a job for the pros.
@uncalled4 Well I really don't think it's the rugs because I keep them vacuumed and they're pretty new. I don't spill things on them. Well it's rare anyway and if I do I get it right up. I use paper towels to soak up anything that's liquid, as well. You gave some great information and I'm sure it will help many. Thank you!

@LadyGrace Let me know what you find. See if you see any flies emerge from there. Vacuuming did not kill them.
@uncalled4 I used the Drano today so that should help and I've never once seen flies come from my rug.

@LadyGrace Good luck with all of that.
