ReduceD suicide.
So these are fairly basic and in my opinion obvious ways to increase self esteem and forward thinking toward stopping suicidal actions.
1) having a regular maybe weekly event to look forward to friends, ppl of the opposite sex, socialization, dancing, sporting events etc. This used to be church for many.
2) relationship the companionship of another whether romantic or not allows forward thinking and a soundingboard opportunity. (Romantic is even better)
3) a job hobby or productive excersize. Being able to provide for oneself allows even more forward thinking. The concern is rural rates of suicide are particularly high, despite the assumed productivity of working agriculture. Maybe it's about time away from parentals so might not apply as much to farm labor on the family farm. But still working toward something also attracts like minded ppl.
Those are the positive reinforcement approaches.
Whereas, the negative disincentivization approach might have opposite effect. Still consequence is necessary too. Likewise the building trust take might just fix it.
So
1) curfew extension paired with reward increased limits (later curfew)
2) Drugs so here the debate continues. Where drugs are something to look forward to, the line into obsession crosses easily. Thus consequence regard are difficult here. Again boundary reward adherence extend boundary might work. Plus farms should be growing weed anyway. Example. In my mid teens early 2000s my buddy had a room in his parents house. We would smoke and drink there fairly regularly. Not that the parents support this but realistically they prefer that we do that safely there than out in the woods like we did otherwise. It eventually was Less and less necessary to hide thus building trust and extending boundaries. In reverse if we had gotten caught and they punished we would have just gone elsewhere less safe more Monitored setting.
given the nature of drugs now(laced) maybe we should have everyone grow their own. And unless the parent or guardian gaurantees the quality of what their dependant is getting they are likely to overdose (potentially appears to be suicide). So yea. Especially in rural areas.
