What do you say to someone that is on the verge of suicide?

They also don't want to hear "don't give up"

Anybody at that stage needs professional support, nothing else.

@PhilDeep But sometimes you are the only one there and you have to get them to a stage of getting support.

@PhilDeep Would you be able to recognize they actually are at that stage? To tell apart a casual breakdown where a person needs to make a statement in a dramatic way but the next day they're okay again, act as if nothing happened etc. and the point where they are very likely to actually do it? I don't know. When is the point you make a decision to "call a shrink on them"?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@CrazyMusicLover That is not my decision. But if a person is sitting on a cliff top threatening to jump, I will act and to the best of my ability, do my most to stop their threats.

If I have the opportunity to get outside help in, of course, I would do that. But if nothing is immediately available, it is up to me as a human.
