This is driving me crazy

Phlegm is just the stupidest thing in the world. I don't know what to do about it. Every time I eat there's always a risk of phlegm building up in my chest. I try to eat slowly but if I mistakingly swallow one bite of whatever food I'm eating quickly I spend the rest of the day trying to cough the phlegm out and if I don't lie down as soon as this starts it gets bad and coughing it out takes hours.

This is just super annoying and I have things to do I can't just give in and lie down whenever it hits.

My physical therapist taught me today a new technique so the phlegm gets out fast and it's more effective than the one my respiratory system doctor taught me 3 years ago. It's all getting tiring. 😔

i'm curious if you can have citrus? the juice of half a lemon in a mug of warm water is a good remedy to cut the effort of expelling phlegm. sip during meal and finish after, maybe? it's something i've recommended to parents of children who can't sleep or eat well due to excess mucus production, but your situation is different.
@SW-User I can yes. Isn't that basically lemon water?
It's acid reflux that causes all this.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether yes, it's just lemon water, except it's warm to mildly hot.
i don't know that it could help acid reflux, but it does aid digestion. maybe clear it with your doc first?

May I ask what the new technique was? I've acid reflux and COPD so it might be useful for me too.

Maybe if you can gargle with some salt water or drink some water with lemon
@Nutshell29 Thanks Joon.
