Rhode57 Sorry, Trash canned my reply because it wasn't informative enough.
I'm a Techie, So I'm going to do some evangelism here.
I use RSS I heavily recomend it. I would find the local newpaper(s) and Subscribe to their RSS feeds.
Those stories can be digested pretty quickly. Then I would find a national paper and something like the new york times and NPR and sub thier RSS too.
I like NPR but that's because deep down inside i'm suspicious of anything "privately" funded..
I'm concerned about biased news, but the bias I'm most worried about isn't left bias or right bias but Corporate bias. I think when the powerful interest don't want us to know something reporters are often terrified of reporting simply because those people will stop advertising on their networks if they do make someone with deep pockets look bad.
Really simple syndication is awesome, completely cross platform and likely even available on mobile on BOTH ios and android, simply because it's open source and widely used.

I would also rec highly cybersecurity RSS feeds, use google to find the best of them
Why? The news doesn't go nearly enough into depth on Tech.
I wouildn't know about advanced presistent threats like cozy bear if I didn't read cybersecurity and hacking blogs.
for Aaron swartza babeh, the internets own.
but my concern about us special interest suppressing the news is part of why I did watch russia today for awhile. Although considering the recent headines have stopped. it was just russia doesn't give a shit about us corporate interest, so it will report away making the rich and powerful look awful.
