Never measured up

Living life the best I could, Yet falling short in doing what I should, Focusing on things I should develop, But in your eyes I still never measured up. One can only do the best he can do, But my best was never good enough for you. Day after day I had to drink from this bitter cup, Going above and beyond yet never measuring up. What a beautiful plaque I once had, A poem about being a little boys dad, So proud to relate to the things it said, But you replaced it with something else instead I stopped doing things that to you were corrupt, But I stopped & accepted the fact, no matter what I do, in your eyes I will never measure up.
