This is Jon. It’s been almost 7 years since his mother discovered his body in his bedroom after he took his life with a gun.
His sudden death has shaken his entire family. When I say shaken I hope it’s clear the comparison I’m making is equivalent to a major earthquake they relive. I’ve been suicidal myself. I’ve seen the days, months even years where living seemed useless nothing more than extended days between pain and emptiness. Depression is a horrible burden & isn’t easy to heal. A note telling loved ones a reason you killed yourself, words saying you loved any of them, writing that this is what you needed to do… none of that is a comfort to the people who have to discover, transport, prepare your body for a service. It’s not a gift to those that are left responsible to call everyone & try to explain what has happened. The words written will never cover all the words not said. Suicide is the most lasting pain I’ve ever seen impact a family. I miss my friend Jon & I miss who his family were before he did what he did.
I hope if anyone is thinking about doing this they try to reach out. It can be a fight to stay alive when you don’t see a purpose. But I’ve not seen another thing that inflicts as much sorrow as suicide yet.
