I Have a Question

CNN is now the gun control 24 7 network?
lasergraph70-79, M
It is what they do every time there is a tragic event. It doesn't matter than gun control doesn't work. France had the most stringent gun control on the planet and it didn't stop Paris from being attacked. 2nd amendment aside laws against drugs works just as well as laws against drugs. But pounding your chest and saying you are going to stop gun violence make good talking points and will make a few people feel better for a few minutes but it won't change a thing. We can't learn from history because we don't teach real history anymore. The sheep will be led wherever the herder wants them to go.

@MarkPa ul if someone wants to kill a lot of people he will do so, he can make a bomb out of a pressure cooker, should we ban them too. The FBI talked to this guy TWICE. So the vetting system isn't working. The problem in Paris wasn''t that they didn't have gun control (Guns are illegal there) So why don't we work on solutions that might actually help and not just make some people feel good. In most states to buy a licensed gun (conceal carry) you have to take a class, pass a test and undergo a background check. When I was a kid students at school had gun racks in their trucks and we didn't have mass shootings. It was easier to get a gun then than now You could send them through the mail until Kennedy got assassinated. We have always had guns but not always mass shootings. We used to control who came into the country but not anymore. YES a president can cease immigration of a particular group, Jimmy Carter had a cease on immigrants from IRAQ during the hostage crises. FDR rounded up German and Japanese citizens and put them in camps in World War II.

Well... I have no interest in agreeing or aligning with Donald Trump... but yeah... if someone is on the no-fly list, they should not get access to guns until they appeal their placement on the list or the FBI removes them based on further investigation.

It seems people say gun laws won't work because they can't work. And, so we ride the wave of one violent event to another with the apathetic satisfaction there is nothing we can do, so we might as well just let guns proliferate because it's good for business (the gun business). It's true we are not going to remove the dark side of human nature that wants to kill to make a statement, get attention, to feel better about self-hatred. But... what we can do is put in some "speed bumps" that raise the possibility that maybe we can gain enough time to slow down or stop the next event - just the next one and maybe preserve just a single innocent life that has hopes, dreams, and plans attached to it.

Some food for thought. As someone who thinks everything the government does has a money base somewhere I am not all that sure the gun industry isn't happy Obama is president. Gun sales have been through the roof. Sales are up, prices are up and business is good. The proponents of gun control in government don't give a rats about anyone's safety it is about dismantling the bill of rights and overall control. Obamacare was and the climate change push is as well, about MONEY. Premiums went up etc. When they banned Freon what happened? The replacement was ten times higher. Follow the money trails and you will always find your answers.

But, unfortunately we are not living in times like back in the day when a sense of decency was "hard-coded" into the culture. So, the old tricks of the trade are not going to work either. I heartily agree we are not going to stop mass killings. Unfortunately, there is no way - short of eliminating our way of life - to do that. The only thing we can do is slow down and limit the destruction. As an analogy, no matter what we do, we won't stop assholes from drinking and driving and killing people. But, what we can do is slow them down and limit the destructive power we allow them to have by imposing stiff sentences... empowering bar owners to limit drinks, etc.

You would agree with Mr Trump that putting the brakes on gun sales to person on the no fly list pending further investigation of the person's status would be a sensible easy to implement first step?

Speaking of gun control didn't some chick politician get STABBED in London today?
jackjjackson61-69, M
No one compares to Mrs Clinton when it comes to looking out for number one.
cherokeepatti61-69, F
The name of the book is "Crisis of Character" written by Gary Byrne
jackjjackson61-69, M
Mr Trump is simply supporting the best interests of citizens.

Jack: A former secret service agent during Bill Clinton's terms in office has written a book and says that she was physically abusive to him to the point they were wondering if they were going to have to do something about her. If she had been a regular citizen she'd been charged with domestic violence each time.

Mrs C is a prime example of lack of morality.
MarkPaul26-30, M
Yes... as reported on CNN. She was assassinated by someone who wants the UK to exit the European Union under the cry of "Britain first."

And, the idea of not letting people on the no-fly list get a gun is not a Donald Trump idea. More than likely, he is just trying to get picked up in the latest news cycle.

@ mark

Anyone in their right mind wants out of the EU. After the government money is exhausted propping up banks in Greece and Cypress the other depositors money will be seized. Does that seem ok to you?

Not to remotely implying stabbing that chick is ok. The point there is thst gun control didn't help her.

@ cp

No surprise. Thanks for the info.

Kinda like Bush did to invade Iraq
MarkPaul26-30, M
That is not true... the President has been calling for no access to guns for people on the no-fly list for quite some time and has consistently been blocked by Republicans. Trump is actually going against Republican interests.
MarkPaul26-30, M
No... that's what happens when you think by taking some common sense steps to moderate violence, you pull a temper tantrum by wildly claiming if we accept any control we will lose all of our rights.

Seems like it
MarkPaul26-30, M
If you focus your lens on ANYONE, he/she could be cited as a prime example of lack of morality.
NakedLezzie26-30, F
I have yet to read a story about 49 people killed and 53 injured in a knife rampage.
NakedLezzie26-30, F
Actually, Trump's first response was grade school "I told you so, neener-neener."
jackjjackson61-69, M
@ mark

On the contrary Mr Trump had it first and the Dems followed his lead. Go figure.

I wish he had published that book a year or 6 months earlier.
NakedLezzie26-30, F
@Jack, are you part of a well regulated militia?
jackjjackson61-69, M
@ mark

Gotta agree with Mr Trump on this one.
