Why do people pluralise words by putting an apostophe then an s?

It's truly bizarre 馃

To be clear: I know what an apostrophe is for. I'm asking because I've seen comments where people have used apostrophes to form plurals. One example I remember is "body's" instead of "bodies".

No idea. Apostrophe is more for possessive. The apple's core was rotten. Or if it's several apples, The apples' cores were rotten.

I'm trying to think of anything that needs an apostrophe to create a plural. Not having any luck.

@Serenitree: It's beyond me how anyone could be so poor at spelling that they don't know how to form plurals, but are literate enough to send online messages.
SerenitreeF
@KiwiDan: but they aren't. You noticed it yourself. They can spell well enough to text or even send full messages, but their spelling and grammar are atrocious.

@Serenitree: I know, that's how it manages to be beyond me

Perhaps you're not aware of that the purpose of an apostrophe before the s designates the possessive form of the noun. Yesterday's weather. As in yesterday (of it's own)

I am aware of what they do. I'm asking why someone would feel the need to do it in general.

Then it is either that they lack an understanding of the correct use in writing -or there's a small chance that you are misreading the sentences in question. Since some poorly written sentences it can be misunderstood. Without seeing the examples nobody can know for sure. That's why there are rules in writing.

Example?

I know that. But I've seen comments online where they use words like "body's" when they clearly mean "bodies". That's just the one example that I recall the most clearly, but there are others.
It's carelessness, imo. I've done it without thinking.

Oh ok. That makes sense.

@KiwiDan: Yes, like your and you're. I often make that mistake; not because I don't know which I should use, but because my fingers have a mind of their own. However, I read my posts after I send them, and the edit button is my best friend.
