Do you care about environmental protection?

I ask because it seems like the extent of people's care is occasionally recycling and shopping at Whole Foods.

People are still doing all the things that indirectly cause unsustainable consumption, pollution and habitat destruction. It's this cognitive dissonance of people believing one thing and doing another.

How do you show that you care if you do?

As a committed and lifelong outdoors person I do care about the topic. Outside of the basic things (recycling, limiting water use in accordance with where I live, choosing sustainable products and 'boycotting' others, etc), I donate my services to some environmentally-focused organizations and invest in companies with a message of sustainability.

I also tackle anyone I see littering, sit on their chests so they can't move and poke them until they promise to never do it again. :)

I gave up even trying to argue with the people who say "What difference can one person make" let alone engaging climate change deniers. It's a pointless endeavor. I just do my thing since it's all I can do.

I do everything I can to reuse and not buy toxic stuff...so many people are doing this...no, not enough..now we have a maniac who will now allow toxic waste into the waterways....it's against the tide

Not enough people give a shit. Humans first, that's how it's been and that's how it will always be. RIP Mother Earth.

Honestly I don't believe it matters much what I do. I'm only one person.

I'm open to discussion about it.

@Ynotisay: Not sure. If I had to guess, I would say no.

@InvaderNice: Got it. Thanks. So as I see it you, as one person, really DO make a difference. That garbage that you might otherwise throw on the ground, which typically will cause some level of harm to the environment, ends up hopefully being disposed of properly. And what we do when no one is looking is usually the biggest driver in to how we all live collectively. The added benefit is that without your garbage on the ground someone else won't be as apt to litter. That speaks to what you mentioned about "judgement."

If you've ever been to Disneyland you've probably noticed how clean it is. Yeah...they have staff picking up but what's really at play is that people are much, much less apt to litter in a place that's clean as opposed to a place that's filthy. If you've ever been to a third world country where pollution and litter is out of control then you know what it's like to be around the alternative.

My point is that your personal decisions, as one person, really DO make a difference. If you make your world a cleaner place that impacts the world I live in too. That's the ripple effect. So the next time you toss something in the garbage, or recycle, you'll be getting a virtual high five from me.

@Ynotisay: Haha. Thanks

I sure don't take clean water and air for granted...both could disappear in 5 minutes...along with the people who contribute to pollution obliviously.....millions and millions of us do the right thing

"What an irony that a society confronted with plastic bags filled with the remains of aborted babies should be more concerned about the problem of recycling the plastic." -Winifred Egan-
