What sort of games do you like?

In terms of genre, as well as anything specific that certain games do that you really enjoy
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
Games with great writing are always my favorites. So I like the point & click adventure games likw the new Telltale Games, or Life is Strange (which is my favorite game ever). The "walking simulator" style like Gone Home or Stanley Parable are also favorites.

RPGs are also great. I don't mind Skyrim/Fallout but I prefer the Bioware style games with a stronger narrative and characters. So Dragon Age, Mass Effect and the older ones like Baldur's Gate 2 and Planscape: Torment.

I enjoy FPS games, although I'm not great at them. I play a lot of Overwatch and I'm just terrible. Favorite FPS is probably Spec Ops: The Line which advertises itself as a CoD clone, but is the more harrowing mindfuck of a game.

Various indy games as well, if they've got cool ideas I'm into it. Currently playing Icey which is hilarious.

Annnd my wife loves World of Warcraft so I play that with her and have for a long time, but not too too much.

I don't actually play video games all the time, I've just been playing them for a long time, lol.

That makes a lot of sense, Jerry. So it's characters and story over gameplay every time.

Life is Strange does sound like a brilliant game, from what I've heard from you and others.

OK, but what is it that those FPS games have that inspires you to play them? Do they conform to your ideal of story/character over gameplay? Or is there another reason?

Sorry for being so intrusive though. I'm just trying to learn what it is different people see in the games they like to play, and what fundamentally drives them to play those games
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
It's cool! There's no story to speak of in any of the multiplayer FPS, it's pure gameplay. I enjoy them because they're a skill you need to learn and improve. Same reason I like raiding in Warcraft. It's a social experience too, so you hang out with people and work as a team to overcome challenges.
SW-User
@TyphoidJerry: OK, I see what you mean now. The social and challenge overcoming aspects are worthy reasons to play

Dark Souls. ᶘ ͡°ᴥ͡ °ᶅ
SW-User
@bearinthebigbluehouse: Fair enough. So you like its brutally challenging difficulty, its simplicity, the themes involved, and of course the memes.
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
@Kiwi-Dan Dark Souls is just brilliantly designed as well. It's a monument to just succeeding at making the video game they wanted to make.
SW-User
@TyphoidJerry: Yeah, that's very true

I like board games, of two kinds: those that are all about fun communication with the other players, like Things or Apples (OK those are not technically board games) and those that have a strong element of drama and imagination, like Shadows Over Camelot.
SW-User
Right, I think I get what you're saying. So you like the communication, intrigue/drama, and making the most of your own imagination
GoddessDiabolica · 26-30, F
[c=#7700B2]@Kiwi-Dan: Yes exactly, in board games and on here :)[/c]
SW-User
@Lioness: So you're very much a social gamer, then? :)
Zelllambert · 31-35, F
Horror in its many forms. Also point and click adventures....especially if it has a thriller/horror tone it's doubly good. Zero escape and still life for example.
SW-User
OK, I see what you mean. Is there a reason you like horror so much?
Zelllambert · 31-35, F
Probably because my dad played a lot of horror when I was younger, some of it scarred me to this day but I'm still really fond of it.
SW-User
Oh ok, that makes sense
SW-User
Fps,rpg,VR,racing
SW-User
@Traubi: Yeah, I've heard that it has a few issues, which hopefully will get worked out. What sort of experiences do you get with VR, anyway?
SW-User
@Kiwi-Dan: it simply puts you in the game you're playing or movie you're watching.
SW-User
@Traubi: Oh I see. That makes sense
SW-User
SW-User
@anotherclone: Oh right. See, I've always considered games like that to be 'sandbox' rather than outright RPGs, you know? I've always considered RPGs to be more about story and characters than anything else
SW-User
@Kiwi-Dan: try fallout 2, it's a old game but I promise you, you will never ever play a game with that much detail
SW-User
@anotherclone: I'll give it a go if I can find/afford a copy :)
FurryFace · 61-69, M
Heroes 3 of Might and Magic HD on my PC
FurryFace · 61-69, M
the HD version Hota has an extra castle and 3 larger screen sizes , for further explanation google it or download it and play it , you'll see
SW-User
@FurryFace: What I meant was, what about the game do you like in terms of gameplay? Ignoring the extra castle and larger screen sizes, what is it that you enjoy about playing the game? What's at the core of your experience?
FurryFace · 61-69, M
@Kiwi-Dan: nevermind , too lazy to type all that shit out
LachrymoseLamer · 51-55, M
RPGs and driving games are my faves.
SW-User
Alright. What is it about them that you like?
LachrymoseLamer · 51-55, M
@Kiwi-Dan: I like the freedom of a good rpg. How you can be your own character rather than a pre-created restricted one.
SW-User
@LachrymoseLamer: OK, I see. So you like the freedom of characterisation.
