Dumb question: would a pizza without cheese still be called a pizza? 馃憖

TrunkZ56-60, M
Perhaps it would be more like a type of Focaccia bread?
ADCxoDPC36-40, F
Yes but a shell of what a pizza should be.

"The original dough is vegan, but the thin-crust is not (it contains dairy). The sauce is vegan and they have a Garden Fresh Vegetarian Pizza which can be made without the cheese." That's weird, though... but I'm sure it's not cheese that makes it pizza.

I . . . Huh . . . No idea.

I think vegans call it that, but... you can call a big mashed up thing of soy and mushroom a steak, don't make it so. imho.

Not really going to argue, but pizzerias call it pizza, not vegans... probably mostly because pizzas is what they do, so that's what they're going to call it even if it's like, pieces of flatbread in tomato soup. o.O

@Faust76: fair enough. I was thinking the vegans created it by asking pizza places to make a 'pizza like thing' that doesn't have cheese... which the pizza place then offered more generally as a version of pizza.

@malcontent: Yeah, I get what you mean. Not a vegan myself, but that still sounds a bit divisive though, I mean these days there's probably a vegan or two working at the pizzeria, and the higher ups, if not one themselves, must've realized that there's a growing target audience who weren't going to OTHER pizza places. So a bit of both, perhaps.

I think its just bread with sauce and all the other items at that point isn't it?
DanezM
@starz93: I would think so.. after all you can have nothing but cheese and still call it a Cheese Pizza.
Faust7646-50, M
@starz93: In Italy, where pizza originates from, many pizza's do not have cheese at all... So I would have to respectfully disagree with that. Albeit, of course, words do change meaning especially when loaned to new languages, but personally I would recognize any pizza with the shape and probably the tomato sauce as a pizza. Second question, if the commercially made pizza is made with some kind of cheese-substitute instead of real cheese, is it still a pizza? ;)

@Faust76: I stand corrected!!! 馃憤
Oh yeah they make them. They're called no cheese pizzas loaded with roasted veggies, were I live.lol Good too!

Neapolitan pizzas don't have cheese on them without any special ordering required so it would be a pizza.

Yeah because some people can't eat cheese but I understand how much you love cheese.
cherokeepatti61-69, F
Might be called flatbread but anyone can call it what they want I guess.
xRedxM
Yeah, it's just a pizza without cheese.
